About EPSG:2154

EPSG:2154 is the Réseau Géodésique Français 1993 / Lambert-93 — a Lambert Conformal Conic projection adopted by IGN as the legal CRS of metropolitan France in 2000, replacing the four-zone Lambert Carto system. It uses the GRS 80 ellipsoid with central meridian 3°E, two standard parallels (44°N and 49°N), and false easting/northing of 700,000 m and 6,600,000 m.

RGF93 is aligned with ETRS89 and therefore drifts negligibly relative to ITRF — direct conversion to WGS 84 is accurate to a few centimetres without needing grid shifts. For this reason Lambert-93 is the natural CRS for any spatial work in mainland France, from cadastral data to infrastructure planning.

Common use cases

  • All IGN mapping (IGN BD ORTHO, BD TOPO, SCAN 25)
  • French cadastre (cadastre.gouv.fr)
  • Public datasets on data.gouv.fr
  • Civil engineering and urban planning in France
