About EPSG:4674

EPSG:4674 is the Sistema de Referencia Geocéntrico para las Américas 2000 (SIRGAS 2000), aligned with ITRF2000 at epoch 2000.4 on the GRS 80 ellipsoid. Adopted by IBGE in Brazil in 2005 and progressively by other Latin American national mapping agencies, it provides a continent-wide compatible reference frame replacing legacy datums like Córrego Alegre, SAD69 and PSAD56.

SIRGAS 2000 is the basis for the Brazilian national CRS and projected CRSs SIRGAS 2000 / UTM zones 17S-25S (EPSG:31977-31985), the SIRGAS 2000 Albers (EPSG:5641) used for IBGE thematic maps, and the SIRGAS 2000 / Brazil Polyconic (EPSG:5880) used in legacy nationwide products.

Common use cases

  • Brazilian federal mapping (IBGE)
  • Latin-American cross-border GIS data exchange
  • GNSS surveying in South America
  • Migrating legacy SAD69 / Córrego Alegre data
