Official EPSG transformations from HD72 to ETRS89

The EPSG Geodetic Parameter Dataset defines 2 transformations between HD72 (EPSG:4237) and ETRS89 (EPSG:4258). Each applies to a specific area — pick the one whose area of use covers your data.

HD72 to ETRS89 (2)

EPSG:1449±0.4 mBest accuracy
Method:
Coordinate Frame rotation (geog2D domain)
Area of use:
Hungary
Scope:
Transformation of coordinates at 0.4m level of accuracy.
ParameterValueUnit
X-axis translation(tx)52.684metre
Y-axis translation(ty)-71.194metre
Z-axis translation(tz)-13.975metre
X-axis rotation(rx)0.312arc-second
Y-axis rotation(ry)0.1063arc-second
Z-axis rotation(rz)0.3729arc-second
Scale difference(ds)1.0191parts per million

Derived at 1153 stations of the Hungarian National GPS Network. Values here correct parameter errors given in Hungarian standard MSZ 7222:2002. Replaces HD72 to ETRS89 (1), code 1829. May be taken as approximate tfm HD72 to WGS 84 - see tfm code 1448.

HD72 to ETRS89 (1)

EPSG:1829±0.5 m
Method:
Coordinate Frame rotation (geog2D domain)
Area of use:
Hungary
Scope:
Transformation of coordinates at 0.1m level of accuracy.
ParameterValueUnit
X-axis translation(tx)56metre
Y-axis translation(ty)-75.77metre
Z-axis translation(tz)-15.31metre
X-axis rotation(rx)0.37arc-second
Y-axis rotation(ry)0.2arc-second
Z-axis rotation(rz)0.21arc-second
Scale difference(ds)1.01parts per million

Derived at 5 stations. OGP recommends corrected Hungarian standard MSZ 7222 (tfm code 1449) be used in preference to this transformation. May be taken as approximate transformation HD72 to WGS 84 - see code 1830.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is converting HD72 to ETRS89?
The most accurate official EPSG transformation between these systems is accurate to about ±0.4 m within its stated area of use. Browser-based converters approximate datum shifts with Helmert parameters; for surveying-grade work apply the official transformation in a desktop GIS.
Does my data leave the browser when I use this converter?
No. All coordinate transformations are computed locally in your browser using proj4js. The coordinates you enter are never transmitted to any server.
