Official EPSG transformations from BD72 to WGS 84

The EPSG Geodetic Parameter Dataset defines 3 transformations between BD72 (EPSG:4313) and WGS 84 (EPSG:4326). Each applies to a specific area — pick the one whose area of use covers your data.

BD72 to WGS 84 (1)

EPSG:1609±1 mBest accuracy
Method:
Coordinate Frame rotation (geog2D domain)
Area of use:
Belgium - onshore
Scope:
(null/copy) Approximation for medium and low accuracy applications assuming equality between plate-fixed static and earth-fixed dynamic CRSs, ignoring static/dynamic CRS differences.
ParameterValueUnit
X-axis translation(tx)-99.059metre
Y-axis translation(ty)53.322metre
Z-axis translation(tz)-112.486metre
X-axis rotation(rx)-0.419arc-second
Y-axis rotation(ry)0.83arc-second
Z-axis rotation(rz)-1.885arc-second
Scale difference(ds)-1parts per million

Scale difference is given by information source as 0.999999. Given in this record in ppm to assist application usage. Very similar parameter values (to slightly less precision) used for BD72 to ETRS89: see code 1652.

BD72 to WGS 84 (3)

EPSG:15929±1 m
Method:
Coordinate Frame rotation (geog2D domain)
Area of use:
Belgium - onshore
Scope:
(null/copy) Approximation for medium and low accuracy applications assuming equality between plate-fixed static and earth-fixed dynamic CRSs, ignoring static/dynamic CRS differences.
ParameterValueUnit
X-axis translation(tx)-106.8686metre
Y-axis translation(ty)52.2978metre
Z-axis translation(tz)-103.7239metre
X-axis rotation(rx)-0.3366arc-second
Y-axis rotation(ry)0.457arc-second
Z-axis rotation(rz)-1.8422arc-second
Scale difference(ds)-1.2747parts per million

Parameter values from BD72 to ETRS89 (2) (code 15928) assuming that ETRS89 is equivalent to WGS 84 within the accuracy of the tfm. Scale difference is given by information source as -1.0000012747; given in this record in ppm to assist application usage.

BD72 to WGS 84 (2)

Scope:
Transformation of coordinates at 5m level of accuracy.
ParameterValueUnit
X-axis translation(tx)-125.8metre
Y-axis translation(ty)79.9metre
Z-axis translation(tz)-100.5metre

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is converting BD72 to WGS 84?
The most accurate official EPSG transformation between these systems is accurate to about ±1 m within its stated area of use. Browser-based converters approximate datum shifts with Helmert parameters; for surveying-grade work apply the official transformation in a desktop GIS.
Does my data leave the browser when I use this converter?
No. All coordinate transformations are computed locally in your browser using proj4js. The coordinates you enter are never transmitted to any server.
