Official EPSG transformations from RGPF to WGS 84

The EPSG Geodetic Parameter Dataset defines 2 transformations between RGPF (EPSG:4687) and WGS 84 (EPSG:4326). Each applies to a specific area — pick the one whose area of use covers your data.

RGPF to WGS 84 (1)

EPSG:8828±0.5 mBest accuracy
Method:
Position Vector transformation (geog2D domain)
Area of use:
French Polynesia
Scope:
Geodesy.
ParameterValueUnit
X-axis translation(tx)0.072metre
Y-axis translation(ty)-0.507metre
Z-axis translation(tz)-0.245metre
X-axis rotation(rx)0.0183arc-second
Y-axis rotation(ry)-0.0003arc-second
Z-axis rotation(rz)0.007arc-second
Scale difference(ds)-0.0093parts per million

SHOM report gives scale difference as 0.999 999 9907 (wrt unity). Transformation is to original Transit definition of WGS 84. It is consistent with later WGS 84 realisations G730, G873 and G1150 to no better than 1m.

RGPF to WGS 84 (2)

EPSG:15833±1 m
Method:
Geocentric translations (geog2D domain)
Area of use:
French Polynesia
Scope:
(null/copy) Approximation for medium and low accuracy applications assuming equality between plate-fixed static and earth-fixed dynamic CRSs, ignoring static/dynamic CRS differences.
ParameterValueUnit
X-axis translation(tx)0metre
Y-axis translation(ty)0metre
Z-axis translation(tz)0metre

Approximation at the +/- 1m level assuming that RGPF is equivalent to WGS 84.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is converting RGPF to WGS 84?
The most accurate official EPSG transformation between these systems is accurate to about ±0.5 m within its stated area of use. Browser-based converters approximate datum shifts with Helmert parameters; for surveying-grade work apply the official transformation in a desktop GIS.
Does my data leave the browser when I use this converter?
No. All coordinate transformations are computed locally in your browser using proj4js. The coordinates you enter are never transmitted to any server.
